Jonathan Knowles

Jonathan Knowles

Appearing: Saturday, Sunday

An explorer, scientist, and technologist, Jonathan is focused on the dynamics of large-scale, long term change with an emphasis on beyond the horizon science and technology.

Jonathan is the Science and Exploration Fellow at Mission Blue—The Sylvia Earle Alliance promoting ocean conservation through the creation of Hope Spots around the world, and the Exploration and Ideation Director for the Frontier Development Lab—a NASA AI research accelerator. He serves on the Board of Directors of The Big Wild--an organization using AI to monitor and preserve animals in their natural habitat and is a member of the board of, and an advisor to, several other oceans, space, archaeology, learning, technology, engineering, and robotics organizations.

With 30 years in Silicon Valley leadership positions at Apple, Adobe, and Autodesk, Jonathan provides insight into the intersection of emerging technologies and social trends and closing the gap between the theory and the practice of innovation in a world of rapidly accelerating technological capabilities. He is a creative thinker and respected voice on future trends, long-range vision, "moonshot" thinking, and creating a preferred future.

And for fun? There's no shortage of that! An avid adventurer and member of the world-renowned Explorer’s Club, Jonathan has and continues to participate in expeditions from the Arctic to the South Pacific and southern Africa, and from the North Atlantic to the Near and the Middle East and the American desert Southwest.

Creating The Improbable.

We believe in every single person’s ability to create the improbable and to learn about themselves and the world in the process. Like any artifact worth searching for, sometimes all it takes is a bit of digging in the right place to find your unique ability. We seek to aid in this endeavor.

At SiliCon with Adam Savage, our goal is to bring together people who have long histories of creating, from filmmakers and actors, to artists, authors, engineers, scientists, technologists, and makers to share their creativity and enthusiasm. We know that the sum of all this interaction is greater than its individual parts. We celebrate the spark we get when we meet new people, surmount new challenges, exult and share with each other.
